Cleaning
A stainless tub. A cotton exterior. The two never meet.

Plumbed and commissioned by our installation team.
The Jishwasher is a conventional 24-inch built-in behind a denim front. We say conventional deliberately: the tub, the racks, the pump, and the seals are all specified to ordinary standards, because the one place a Jarpet & Japes piece should not be interesting is inside a machine that holds water.
Development
The question was never whether denim could survive a kitchen. It was whether vented drying steam, over years, would lift the panel at its upper edge. We could not model this credibly, so we ran a single machine on a continuous heavy cycle for four months and inspected the panel every fifty runs. It moved two millimetres at run 400 and then never moved again.
Every part of the Jishwasher that touches water is off the shelf and deliberately so. We did not reroute the spray arms, redesign the sump, or specify a novel seal. A dishwasher that leaks is not a design statement, it is a flooded kitchen.
What we did build is the front: a denim panel over a marine-grade backer, held at the perimeter and released by four quarter-turn fasteners. The control bar is denim wrapped over hardwood, rivetted in copper at the eight points where a hand actually lands. Everything forward of the door seal is ours. Everything behind it is boring on purpose.
Ownership
Questions we are asked
The interior is a standard stainless tub and is entirely waterproof. The exterior cladding is not rated for submersion. It is rated for a kitchen.
Nothing you would not expect. Release the four fasteners, remove the panel, air-dry it flat for forty-eight hours, and refit. Indigo may migrate slightly at the lower hem.
No. Vented steam exits at the upper door edge, away from the panel face, and the backer is marine grade. We ran the test cycle eleven hundred times before release.
It can, though we have never known anyone to want that.
Universally, and usually before they notice anything else in the room. We mention this because a number of owners have told us they wanted a kitchen that did not start a conversation, and this is not that.
